Rainforests of the Sea is inspired by my time in Sri Lanka, where I spent days surfing and exploring the coastline. The work draws from the structure and biodiversity of coral reefs, often called the rainforests of the ocean and their vital role in sustaining marine life. After witnessing areas of bleached coral along the reef, I wanted to reflect on both their beauty and vulnerability. By combining sand, sawdust, pulp, and marble dust, I created a textured surface that evokes the rough, layered qualities of coral formations while alluding to their fading color — a reminder of the fragility of these ecosystems.
