London Art Exchange (LAX) – Return Policy

This Return Policy applies to all purchases and auction sales made through London Art Exchange Limited (“LAX”, “we”, “our”, “us”). It covers both gallery/private sales and items purchased via our auction platform at www.lax.art.
1. General Principle
- LAX aims to ensure every client is satisfied with their purchase.
- Due to the nature of fine art and collectibles, returns are limited and subject to strict conditions.
2. Gallery & Private Sales
- For items purchased directly through our gallery, website shop, or private sales channels:
- Clients may request a return within 14 calendar days of the date payment was made.
- Returns will only be accepted if the item is in the same condition as originally supplied, with all documentation and certificates intact.
- Refunds will be processed once the item has been inspected and approved by LAX.
- Refunds exclude delivery, framing, insurance, or other additional services, unless required by law.
3. Auction Sales
- All auction sales are final.
- No refunds, cancellations, or exchanges are permitted once a Lot has been won, except where required by law.
- Buyers acknowledge that all Lots are sold “as is, where is” and accept responsibility for due diligence prior to bidding.
- Any refund granted in exceptional circumstances will be strictly at LAX’s discretion and capped at the Buyer’s Premium paid.
4. How to Request a Return (Gallery Sales Only)
- Email returns@thelax.art within 14 days of payment date, including:
- Order number or invoice reference.
- Proof of purchase.
- Reason for return.
- We will provide instructions for return shipping or collection.
- Clients are responsible for return shipping, insurance, and associated costs.
5. Exclusions
Returns are not accepted for:
- Auction sales (except where legally mandated).
- Items damaged after delivery.
- Custom framing, special commissions, or personalised artwork.
- Digital services, appraisals, or memberships.
6. Liability
- LAX takes reasonable care to ensure accurate descriptions and secure delivery of all artworks.
- Our liability for refunds is strictly limited to the purchase price paid.
- We exclude liability for consequential or indirect losses.
- This policy does not affect statutory rights under UK consumer law.
7. Amendments
We may update this Return Policy at any time. Updates will be effective once posted on our website.
