Into the distance’ is about the searching and waiting. When we first came to this country my dad took me to a primary school in Leeds to have a look around. Without any forewarning he left me there. The teacher said, “Your dad has gone’ and I started to sob. I thought he'd left me forever. And all I could say was “but I've got my best jacket on I'll get into trouble" I was wearing a fake tan leather jacket at the age of four years old. I was only allowed to wear it on special occasions. For some reason that's all I was worried about. Looking off into the distance has many layers to it. This was the memory for me. But also there's a blazing sunrise of hope, or a stunning sunset of letting go. Choose your story.
