Nkem Odeh-Ifeyinwa
Nkem Odeh-Ifeyinwa is a Nigerian visual artist whose work bridges the intellectual depth of the Ife Art School with a distinctly contemporary approach to figurative expression. Born in Ile-Ife and trained in Fine and Applied Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, he brings together tradition, cultural narrative, and experimental materiality in striking mixed-media compositions. His practice is defined by the integration of newsprint with acrylic, oil, conte, and pastel — a technique that creates layered surfaces rich with history, symbolism, and social resonance. Figures emerge from these textured foundations as though rising through fragments of collective memory, embodying themes of identity, community, and the complexities of modern African life. Odeh-Ifeyinwa’s work is bold yet poetic, articulating stories that feel simultaneously personal and universal. His growing international presence, bolstered by a strong digital following, reflects the clarity of his artistic vision and the emotional weight of his imagery. Through his multidisciplinary approach, he contributes meaningfully to the evolving landscape of contemporary African art, blending innovation with cultural rootedness.
