Description

In Homeland, Mr Phantom adopts the innocence of a child’s drawing to confront the realities of migration and forced displacement. A brightly outlined house and smiling sun suggest safety and belonging, yet barbed wire and open water expose the distance between that ideal and lived experience. Below, a crowded boat carries its passengers towards a home that appears almost suspended beyond their reach, connected only by a fragile trail of blue footprints. Even the smoke rising from the chimney transforms into barbed wire, allowing threat and confinement to enter an otherwise hopeful image. Through this tension between innocence and hardship, Homeland asks what the word “home” means when safety, borders and belonging can no longer be taken for granted.
