In Feeding Time (Blue), Mr Phantom disrupts one of nature’s most instinctive relationships: the dependence of the young upon a source of nourishment. The parent bird is replaced by a surveillance-like machine, while food becomes a blue digital connection suspended just beyond the fledgling’s reach. The contrast between the fragile bird and the cold mechanical structure raises questions around dependency, influence and the systems shaping young minds from their earliest years. The blue cable provides the work’s only concentrated colour, positioning technology as both an object of desire and a source of sustenance. At once vulnerable and unsettling, the work considers what it means to grow up in a world where digital consumption has become almost instinctive.
